Dr. Brooke Gialopsos, PhD

Associate Professor

Biography

Brooke Gialopsos, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Forensics. Her current research interests involve the prevention and harm mitigation of school shootings, civilian active assailant protocols, psychological impacts of safety protocols, fear of crime and risk perceptions, sexual victimization, and school-based victimization. She also co-led the Washington State Jury Demographic Survey in partnership with colleague Dr. Peter Collins and the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts. In addition, Dr. Brooke is a certified ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) instructor and educates members of the community on how to survive active shooter situations, in general, and school shootings, in particular. She is also an LGBTQ+ Ally and a Safe Zone educator, as well as the Co-Advisor to the Criminal Justice Club and Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society), and the Co-Facilitator of the Social and Criminal Justice Book Club.
