Biography

Dr. Nathaniel Mason is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. His primary goal as a counselor educator is to foster students’ inner sense of curiosity, compassion for themselves and others, and a lifelong love for learning from their clients and students. His teaching and mentorship style is humanistic, relational, and centered on how to empower you as a student to find your inner strengths that will serve you well as a counselor in training. He is located in Virginia Beach, VA, with his husband and two rambunctious (but adorable) corgis. Dr. Mason currently works at a private practice in Hampton Roads where he assists individuals and couples from all backgrounds to live happier, more fulfilling lives and be present in their relationships. His previous experiences have included working three years at a fully remote position as a counselor educator for a large, online graduate program. He has authored and co-authored plethora of scholarship on the experiences of LGBTQ+ clients, particularly those in recovery from addiction, and finding ways to facilitate their connection with the community to promote a sense of well-being and resilience and mentor.
